Although very similar to Skype, Viber and other VoIP apps, Hangouts Dialer gives you everything they do, in a package that's under 1mb in size. It's 78kb to be exact, and that's because you don't have to deal with downloading a big program to your mobile device. All you're downloading here with with this app is a relay page to Google Hangouts. This integrates Hangouts into your phone or tablet and allows you to start or join rooms with all your friends, using voice or video on your calls.

For people who stream and do podcasts with guests, this is a great app to have, as it allows you to perform these conference calls and meet-ups anywhere. If you're stuck at an airport, late at the office, or anywhere else, you can access Hangouts as long as you have an internet connection. Since it's Google, you also don't have to go through a lengthy process of create a profile. Simply use the Gmail address you used to register your phone.

How Hangouts Dialer Works

This is an app that's going to download to your phone and install itself almost instantly. As soon as you click on the install button for the APK, the small 78kb file will download quickly and allow you to open it. What you're going to see on the page when you open is what looks like the start of a Hangout room: A white and green page that's prompting you to invite people and start a call. From here, it's pretty straightforward to use.

Send an invite out to friends, or enter their Gmail name directly, and launch your room. You can also call your friends, just like with Skype, if you want to use Hangouts Dialer more like an instant messenger. It definitely has those capabilities. The only downside compared to Hangouts is that since it isn't opened up off of YouTube's page, you won't be able to broadcast your calls live on the network.

Hangouts Dialer Features

The feature suite for Hangouts Dialer is pretty simplistic. All you're really getting with this app is instant access to Google Hangouts. From there, you're quite literally using Hangouts on your device, so every feature is from Google's service, nothing new that the app provides you. Even still, you have the option to call people, invite people, chat with voice, video or just text, and everything else you can do with Skype or Viber.

The ability to call friends direct to get them into the Hangouts room is pretty cool, especially considering that you can call more than one person and actually get quite a few people into the room with you.
